Managing and Leading in the Voluntary Sector

Whether you are new to volunteering or you already work in the sector and are interested in progressing into a leadership role, this course provides an ideal introduction to help you succeed in the voluntary sector!

The level 2 course is designed for individuals who are eager to set up their own community activities, as well as for volunteers currently working within the sector who are interested in advancing into leadership and management roles. It also serves as a valuable refresher for those who wish to update and strengthen their knowledge and skills.

More information

The course will start on Tuesday 25th February and will take 6 weeks to complete. You will attend one two-hour session per week, from 10.00am – 12.00pm.

The course takes place at St Helens College, Town Centre Campus, St Helens WA10 1PP.

You will study the following topics:

  • Overview of the voluntary sector
  • Introduction to strategic and business planning
  • Project management
  • Managing charity finances
  • Budgets and financial reporting
  • Fundraising strategies
  • Partnership working
  • Leadership and management
  • Risk management
  • Future trends

The course is assessed through an end of course knowledge test.

There are no formal entry requirements, all you need is a keen interest in the voluntary sector.

This course is free to study.

Upon successful completion of this course, you may wish to progress on to a CMI or ILM professional qualification in Management and Leadership.
